Shabu Suki

I gotta admit that in the six months that we've been in Korea, Carol and I have not been making the healthiest choices when it comes to food... mostly its my fault x). But this past week, I had a craving for some shabu shabu so we went to a place nearby my place called either "Che-Won Shabu" or "Shabu Suki"... I'm not sure since both names are on the entrance.

"Shabu... whatever-its-called", is located on the 5th floor inside Gunyung department store near Hagye station (line 7).
shabu shabu.

The restaurant was nothing fancy but the service was awesome! The ahjooma working there gave us a free entree plate (extra noodles, 2 dumplings, and 2 sets of Ubu) and also a free Porridge mix (which was on the menu for $1,000 won), Score!

The side dishes...

Mixed vegetables salad, Mul kimchi, and of course the thing that holds us all together.... the kimchi.

The beef stock where you cook all the meat and veggies...

Before.
Mix it all up in there...

After.
The meat... ready to be dunked. We had to order two plates of this because the serving was quite small.

Fresh meat.

The nice ahjoomah brought us this entree plate for free!

Free you say? why thank you!
The semi-spicy dipping sauce... Not sure what it was exactly, but it was sweet, tangy and spicy.

 I require more of this.
The dinner table... the giant plate of vegetables piled high is not in this picture (on the right side). I was actually pleasantly surprised at how generously they piled the veges :) Also, There were plenty of mushrooms... my favorite.

Healthy dinner.
By far this was the healthiest dinner I've had in Korea.

A slice of cooked Meat wrapped around some cabbage, mushroom and bean sprout.
After finishing the main course of Shabu Shabu, the nice lady made us porridge cooked in the broth that we've been using to cook everything else. I think this is typical of most shabu shabu restaurants but I think it usually costs a little extra... we got it for free :)

It may not look very appetizing in the picture but it was actually pretty amazing...

... this one was jussst right.

After our healthy, light, and delicious shabu shabu dinner I had a great idea...

let's go to....

... I couldn't resist a donut.
Holy moly, why are all the Dunkin Donuts in Korea so nice? All the ones I've been to back in the States seemed so dingy and gross... like you'd gain 10 pounds just walking in the shop.

If you're wondering about the empty looking shelves keep in mind it was close to closing time.

So neat and clean...
I vant a donut.
Espresso. Fo sho.

I ordered coffee... an Americano and Carol ordered... a Green Apple soda

"Hello. We're here to ruin your healthy night"

Cool door handle...

"D"

I gotta say the best part about the Shabu Shabu dinner was the price... the food was good too of course but since I rarely get to enjoy it back in L.A. (damn you Kahn and your ridiculous prices) I was quite pleased to pay only $20,000 won ($17~$18 USD) for both of us to be completely full.
