The title of this entry may seem strange...
dogs... |
cats... |
and 2pm...wtf? |
But when you visit Thailand, you WILL see these things everywhere... Stray cats and dogs roam the sidewalks freely looking for something to eat. Sometimes you see them in packs. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating with 2PM but you most definitely will see/hear some kpop on phi phi island.
"I'll be baaack... to buy these chips." |
When Carol and I arrived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, we were both eager to get out there and start exploring and buying crap with our Thai Baht (that's Thai money for the slow folks).
"monopoly currency is also accepted here." |
One of the first things we bought... actually what Carol bought was a bag of Lay's potato chips. In Thai its called L@&%?
"Lay's..." |
After checking into our hotel near the airport, we went out to dinner. We found this little joint about 5 minutes away from our place.
The menu was all in Thai so I was a little hesitant to order, fearful that I might order the stray cat fillet or fried dog face.
We decided to stick to what we know. So Carol ordered Pad Thai and I ordered some Tom Yom Goong (this is my favorite item on the menu at Thai BBQ). Luckily, the waiter understood us so he jotted down our order and we waited...
about 10 minutes later this is what we got...
"the ORIGINAL pad thai... that's right betches." |
wait for it.... |
"Kablam!" |
"For the first time... I don't need hotsauce." |
Needless to say, the food was really great. The ingredients tasted fresh and both our dishes were the best Thai food we've ever had... so far.
So now its time to pay, and I'm thinking, "Okay one Pad Thai and one Tom Yom Goong... two sodas, it probably won't cost over $15 us dollars.... So i should probably pay around 450 - 500 Baht.
I look at the check, our meal cost ~ 170 Baht... the gears in my head were cranking. Hmmm... that's like $6 dollars. So I asked the dude "How much was the soup?" - "90 Baht"
"How about the Pad Thai?" "60 Baht".... so basically we just payed 2 dollars for Pad Thai and 3 dollars for Tom Yom Goong and 1 dollar for two drinks... I felt like a bamf.
